Round nine of the Louisiana Cross Country Series, Hall’s Hazzard County, was a very eventful and action-packed weekend staged at one of the most beautiful campgrounds on the series schedule. Nearly 500 people showed up on Halloween Day to do their part in raising $2,400 – which the land owners, the Hall family, donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! This is the second year in a row the Hall family has made a generous contribution. And there was more: A hay ride (see photo at bottom of story) was given to the children on Saturday night, a pit-bike race was held, special obstacles were built for the spectators’ enjoyment. In addition to everything else going on, children were able to go trick-or-treating, Halloween camper decorations were quite impressive, parents organized games for the kids, and so on.
The weekend fun surely didn’t stop there, as National-level off-road Pros Morgan Moss (47, above) and Josh Weisenfels (66, below) decided to come out and give the top LACC Series front-runners a little challenge. Moss won round six of the series in late August, just before getting back into the GNCC scene. Word on the street is that Moss will most likely be racing in Europe next year, so it was great to see him put on another show locally in Louisiana.
In the XC1 class, Suzuki City/Moose/Enduro Engineering’s Stephen Reed almost had the holeshot, but he slid out, allowing the round-eight winner, KTM/Scott Equipment/ Adrenaline Motorsports/Hutchinson ATV’s Andy Beebe, to squeeze by and lead the pack around the next set of turns. By the end of the first lap, Moss had worked his way up to first, Beebe was close behind in second, and Warren Drilling/Rekluse/Moose/ Shoei/Dunlop-backed Bryan Vaughan (30, below, left) was third. To no one’s surprise, Moss put on an impressive show, grabbed the overall victory, and collected the majority of the purse money.
“I would like to thank Fred Andrews Racing; Joey Maurer. my mechanic; Monster; Pro Circuit; Alpinestars; PG Graphics; Maxxis tires; O’Neal; Silkolene; IMS tanks; Asterics braces; Andrews Cycles; and The Myrtles Plantation,” Moss said.
Two-time World MX Champion Trampas Parker (13, above, right) slowly worked his Munn Racing/Arai/Fly/TCP MX Schools-sponsored KTM up from fourth place after lap one to eventually finish second in the XC1 class and third overall. Parker grabbed just enough points to wrap up the championship title.
“I was impressed with Beebe’s riding today,” said Parker. “I hope you’re wrong about [Parker] wrapping it up and I hope it comes down to the last round. I had a blast this year and will be back again next year. It was harder than some people think, and I need to enjoy it because these guys are riding very well and will be coming after the title hard next year. The series has brought fun back into riding for me – everyone is friendly at the races, and it’s just a great time.”
When the dust settled, Vaughan finished in third place in the XC1 class, just four seconds ahead of Beebe, in fourth. Vaughan got the short end of the stick with a course reroute but kept pushing until the end, as usual. Fifth place went to defending LACC Series Champion Stephen Reed, whose Suzuki came through the scoring tent just a fraction of a second ahead of Kevin Hutchinson’s Kawasaki – much to the spectators’ delight.
XC2 Lites rider Josh Weisenfels started one row back, behind Moss in the XC1 class. The Works Connection/Pro Moto Billet/Fastway/IMS-backed, Kawasaki-mounted Weisenfels easily led every lap in his class, worked his way past almost all of the XC1 riders in the dust, was actually in the overall lead on adjusted time ahead of Moss briefly for one lap, and ended up finishing just one second shy of the overall!
The defending Lites champion, Moose/Enduro Engineering/FMF-backed KTM rider Jason Reine, had an exciting race and ended up second in class, ahead of Mike’s Cycle Supply-backed KTM rider Evan Shows in third.
Excitement is definitely building for the final round of the series, to be held up in the sandy hills of Sicily Island on November 14. The LACC Series staff sincerely thanks everyone for coming out and supporting the series and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As usual, action-packed videos, helmet-cam video of the top riders, and pictures be will soon be posted on www.AcadianaRacing.com!
