SICILY ISLAND, LA, NOV. 14, 2010
The Jim Bowie – the final round of the 2010 Louisiana Cross Country Series – featured near-perfect ground conditions and nice, cool weather. Several class championships had already been determined, but that didn’t stop a large crowd of riders from trying their hand at the technical, hilly and challenging Sicily Island racecourse.
To no one’s surprise, Hutchinson ATV-backed Kawasaki jockey Kevin Hutchinson grabbed another holeshot on his 250cc two-stroke. Having wrapped up their respective classes, young guns Jake Haddox (48, below left), on a Yamaha, and Hutton Woods, on a KTM, stepped up to run with the big boys in the XC1 class and ran at the front of the pack for more than a lap until the Expert-class veterans said, “We ain’t having this.” KTM/ Munn/ TCP MX Schools’ Trampas Parker, Warren Drilling/ Moose/ Rekluse/ Shoei/ Dunlop-backed KTM rider Bryan Vaughan, Stephen Reed, Andy Beebe and the gang soon worked their way past.
But they weren’t in the clear yet, as Arkansan Kawasaki jockey Josh Weisenfels, starting from the second row in the XC2 Lites class, ran down all of the XC1 riders and eventually captured the overall win! Parker finished off the season with another XC1-class win, followed by Vaughan in second. Third place went to Gas Gas-sponsored rider Carsten Cagle (39, above right) from Mississippi.
Overall, the podium was topped by Josh Weisenfels (below, center), with Trampas Parker (left) as runner-up and Bryan Vaughan (right) in third.
Weisenfels’ overall win was the first time in LACC history that an XC2 Lites rider grabbed the majority of the $500 cash purse. Second place in the XC2 class went to the newly crowned 2010 XC2 Lites champion, KTM/Performance Cycles/ Chuck’s Used Appliance-backed KTM rider Ryan Breaux, and young KTM rider Russ Wiggers took the hard-earned final podium spot.
Parker had the 2010 championship locked up, but this final race determined several other positions. The top five riders of 2010 are Trampas Parker, Andy Beebe, Stephen Reed, Stephen Sturges and Kevin Hutchinson. Also, for the second year in a row, Kevin Hutchinson was crowned the Vintage champion.
The LACC Series staff sincerely thanks all of the 2010 landowners, volunteers and participants for their contributions to another successful season. Excitement is already building for the 2010 awards banquet. See you there!
