The Muddobbers Motorcycle Club is known for hosting National enduros, but they also host a nice hare scrambles at the Covered Bridge. With plenty of parking and camping, a lot of the racers showed up the night before, as there were heavy storms in the weather forecast. Heavy rain did fall close by, but the course got less than a half-inch of rain, making for good race conditions on Sunday.

The big bikes lined up for the start, with the heavy hitters in the first row, including ISDE/ Legend rider Jeff Fredette. Jesse Warner, aboard his Indy Moto Gas Gas, got the holeshot, ahead of Fredette and Derek Spangler. Warner – who, in his own words, is “more accustomed to enduros” – held on to the lead for the first lap, with Spangler hounding him for most of the first five miles.

On lap two, Spangler got around Warner. In the grass-track leading into the scoring barrels, Fredette started applying some pressure, and Warner slid out on one of slick, grassy corners.
A lap later, Spangler and Fredette battled side by side through the entire grass-track section. Fredette would go on to win just 30 seconds ahead of Spangler after two hours of racing.
Warner admitted he felt uncomfortable in the lead, as he didn’t expect to be there and wasn’t sure what kind of pace to set as the leader. He finished fifth overall and won the Open A class, ahead of Scott Kirchoff and Dave Dunnuck.

The largest class, with 16 riders, was the Heavy C class. Darin Minnick led the first lap, with Chris Meyers running in second. Meyers then got around Minnick and carried on for the win, finishing four minutes ahead of Philip Wallace. Minnick ended up finishing in fifth place. So one of the oldest riders entered in the event took the overall win, and everyone had a great time on the 5-mile course that had everything from tight woods to open grass-track.
