PERRIS, CA, SEPT. 17, 2011

Round nine of Southern California Flat Track Association action was held at Perris Raceway’s quarter-mile oval, and it featured not one but two firsts, and while the full story and results will be posted shortly, here’s a couple of photos, just to whet your appetites…

Bobby Hesse (47) rode the Southland Racing/ Jim Wood DTX Honda for the first time in his life and adapted quickly to the bike (he had to!) to earn his first-ever Pro main-event victory! Here, Cycle World’s Mark Cernicky (50) gives chase. Photo by Jamey Blunt

The second first to occur at Perris this past weekend was that once again the track record fell yet closer to the 13-second barrier, as John Kocinski (3) put his head down and turned a 14.22-second lap in the 250cc-360cc Two-Stroke Air-Cooled final on his Knight-framed, Bud Aksland-tuned, Andy Bondio-built, Red-Line Oil-sponsored Honda, nicknamed “Elsie.” Photo by Janice Blunt
