Hurd Motorsports, promoters of the world-class Broome-Tioga Sports Center facility, continues to expand its long and varied list of racing events and has created a new Winter Snow Scrambles Series. This new series will consist of four rounds running from December through March and will utilize the multiple motocross tracks, grass-track and single-track trails of this massive facility. Series points will be recorded by the promoter and end-of-series overall awards will be presented at the final round to eligible riders.

The inaugural first round dawned under blue skies and abundant sunshine. Temps in the mid-30s kept the racecourse frozen and helped keep track conditions fairly consistent throughout the day.

Dustin Jordan (11), Dallas Mica (8), Mike Maresca (20) and Tim Murphy (92) lead the start of the Expert division at the opening round of the first-ever Winter Snow Scrambles Series at Broome-Tioga Sports Center.

When the green flag dropped for the start of the Expert-bike Snow Scrambles, Dustin Jordan, Dallas Mica, Mike Maresca, Tim Murphy and Nick Davis led the pack out of the first turn. Davis worked his way through the field and took the lead near the end of the opening lap. Andy Bristol, Mica, Maresca and Ben Bouwens rounded out the top five.

Bristol was credited with the lead at the start of lap two and was trailed by Davis in second. Bouwens, Maresca and Jordan followed. Davis moved back into the lead on lap three and would remain in the lead all the way to the checkers. Bristol was relegated to second; where he would also remain to the finish. The battle for the remaining top five wouldn’t be decided until the final lap. Davis took the checkers and the win with a 28-second advantage. Bristol took second. Bouwens took third after battling with eventual fourth-place finisher Jordan, who held third for laps four and five but was passed on the white-flag lap by Bouwens. Maresca completed the top five.

Daniel Conway (111) and John Thierfelder (27) lead the start of the Open Amateur-division Snow Scrambles.

Daniel Conway and John Thierfelder led the start of the Open Amateur Snow Scrambles. Conway continued to lead at the start of lap two and was trailed by Nicholas Wheeler, Nick Kraegel, Kirk Schultes and Thierfelder.

John Roys (929) leads the start of the 101-200cc Amateur division.

The top five remained unchanged for the entire race but saw some competition from the 200cc Amateur division toward the end of the scrambles, when class winner Kevin Kilmer climbed up into the front-runners and eventually finished third overall. Conway took the Open Amateur win. Wheeler, Kraegel, Schultes and Thierfelder closed out the top five.

Nate Thomas (10) leads the start of the Quad Expert-division Snow Scrambles.
