Nick Swanson came out on top in a points tie with Kyle Avery to walk away with the Lites Beginner-class overall honors at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park during the fifth and final round of the M2X Racing Spring Kickoff Series.

Nick Swanson (25) came out on top of a points tie to win the Lites Beginner class at the M2X Racing Spring Kickoff Series season finale.

Avery had the quickest reaction time when the gate dropped in opening-moto action, as he got the jump on Swanson, Ryan Nolan, Cody Ried and the rest of the field. Nolan wasted little time making his way into the lead on the opening lap. Avery controlled second place and had his hands full with YZ125-mounted Richard Taylor. Nolan put in a great ride, stretching out his advantage with each passing lap to see the checkers first by a comfortable margin. Taylor and Avery went at it over second place for most of the moto, with Taylor coming out on top on the white-flag lap. Swanson was a fairly close fourth, followed by Reid, Jordan Erickson and Donevan Parmeter.

Nolan had his Honda running at the front of the pack in moto two for about a quarter of a lap before he got out of shape in a turn and went down, handing the lead to Swanson. Avery closed to the back fender of Swanson and was applying some pressure until an off-track excursion allowed Swanson to sprint the last two laps uncontested for the win. Swanson’s 4-1 score topped the 3-2 tally of Avery for the first-place trophy. Erickson turned a good start into a third-place finish and fourth in the final standings, below the 2-4 finishes of Taylor. Nolan (1-13) rounded out the top five, over Croix Fries (8-5) and Parmeter (7-8).

Blake Gardner (712) picked up overall wins in three classes at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park.

KTM-mounted Blake Gardner had a busy and rewarding day at the track, as he won five out of six motos entered to take home overall wins in the 50cc (7-8) A, 50cc Open and 65cc Beginner classes. Gardner saw the checkers first in all four of his 50cc battles. Matthew Hammer went 2-2 in the A class, over Justin Maliska (4-3) and Isaac Wilson (3-4), while 3-4 finishes earned Nathan Abbott the second-place trophy in the Open class, over the 5-3 tally of Maliska and the 2-7 effort of Roger Mueller.

Jarod Harris got the better of Gardner in the opening 65cc Beginner contest, but Gardner bounced back to take the second-moto victory and, with it, his third class win of the day. Shaun Jacobson went 3-3 for third overall, behind Harris, with Michael Carger (4-4) and Conner De La Tora (5-5) earning fourth and fifth overall, respectively.

Mikey Lundin (183) flew to 2-1 finishes to top the 65cc Open class.

Dylan Rogers went wire to wire for the first 65cc Open moto win, over Mikey Lundin, Lonzel Francisco and Aidan Ferguson. Rogers didn’t make the drop of the gate in moto two, which allowed Lundin to run away with the win and collect the tallest trophy in the class. A good battle for second place went down to the wire, with Francisco holding off Ferguson to earn second overall.

Jarett Megla flew his KTM to four straight moto wins to capture the class victory in both the 85cc (12-13) and 85cc Open classes. Taylor was runner-up to Megla in both age-class motos, over Brandon Jennings (3-3) and Randy Engelhardt. Nolan Colborn piloted his Kawasaki to a pair of second-place finishes in 85cc Open-class racing, over Tyler Colvin (3-3) and Engelhard (4-4).

Jarett Megla 122 topped both the 85cc 12-13 age and 85cc Open classes.

Brandon Pozas made short work of the Lites Novices, as he led every lap of both motos aboard his Yamaha. Joel Brewer held off Mike Jackman and Dylan Waters to finish in the second spot, behind Pozas, in moto one. Jackman and Daniel Rapalo ended up in a pile in turn two off the start in moto two, which allowed Waters to go 4-2 for second overall on the afternoon. Rapalo rebounded to finish third in the moto, over Jackman.

Brandon Pozas (452) ran away from his competition in the Lites Novice ranks.

Brett Rothas (239) dominated the Moto X Novice field.

Brett Rothas was equally impressive in the Moto X Novice ranks, as he flew his KXF450 to a pair of convincing wins. Bob Burns, Adam Moore and Nicholas Elery each took their turn holding down second place during the course of both motos, with Moore ultimately prevailing with his 2-2 tally. Elery carded a pair of thirds, over Burns.
