The 2014 race season has officially begun with TORN’s round one taking place on March 1 and 2 in Boyd, Texas. While most of the country is still under snow, the 75-degree temperatures and sunny skies made for a perfect race day. The course was a 5.5-mile loop consisting of whooped-out sand sections, a few tight wooded areas, some dry creek beds, and a few rocky hillclimb sections.

When the flag dropped for the uphill start, Team UXC rider Chris Robinson grabbed a solid third-place position in the field, among 10 Utility quads.

“The Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 EPS left the line hard and pulled strong all the way up the 50-plus-foot hill,” Robinson recounted. “As we headed for the first tight wooded section, I noticed passing lines were few and far between, so I settled in for the first few miles until I found a good line.

“At the four-mile marker, I made a pass for second place, and by the beginning of lap two, I had made the pass for first,” he continued. “By the end of lap two, I had a comfortable lead and rode smart while keeping a quick pace all the way to the checkered flag.

“I couldn’t be happier with the performance of this machine,” Robinson concluded. “The Scrambler felt light and nimble through the tight sections and very stable at high speeds.”

Team UXC sponsors played a vital role in the race this weekend. Custom Axis Shocks has worked hard to dial in the suspension for the Scrambler, making it feel like it floats across the whooped-out sand sections and allowing it to make the rocky hillclimbs a breeze. Rox Speed FX’s antivibe riser mated to the Fasst Co. Flexx Bars increases the greatness of the power steering on the Scrambler, giving it almost effortless control. The Maxxis Ceros tires mounted on Hiper Racing wheels provided excellent traction and forward bite without any tire roll in the corners.
