Riding the momentum of a first-place finish at the last round, Michael Swift and his Factory Polaris Team UXC Racing headed into the 11th round of the GNCC racing series, held just outside the town of Central City, Pennsylvania. Well known as “Somerset” by the GNCC regulars, this event was held at the Mountain Ridge Trails Resort, which features more than 2,500 acres of rocks, briar thickets and elevation changes.

Team UXC Racing’s Michael Swift rode to a podium finish in the Pro 4x4 class at round 11 of the GNCC Series.

Walking the track on Friday, Swift quickly realized there were more fast sections than tight woods sections, and that making the wide sections of the trails count could be a deciding factor. With very little rainfall to speak of, concerns turned to dust and how it would affect the outcome of Saturday’s race.

“Right from the start, we knew this would be a challenging race, as we launched off the grid dead last,” Swift said. “Our luck began to pick up, though, as we moved our Polaris Scrambler 850 into fifth by the end of the first lap.”

Just as Team UXC began to mount a charge toward the front, the dust began to really kick up. Swift put his head down and charged on, passing up to third place by the end of the second lap. Realizing he was only 30 seconds behind the next rider, Swift turned on the heat just a little more to catch up. Gaining ground on second place was made extremely difficult by the intense dust. Having trouble not only seeing the rider in front of him but any sign of the course as well, Swift made the decision to hold his ground and ride safe.

“We have to be able to race another day, and with the unpredictable trail conditions, not to mention the hidden obstacles in the weeds if you got off course to pass, I had to make a choice to finish and not crash out,” explained Swift.

Taking the third podium spot overall, as well as a solid third place for the Utility Pro class, was a great day for our Factory Polaris Team UXC Racing Scrambler. Team UXC will be bringing the heat not only in 4×4 Pro but also in the Polaris RZR 900XP at the next round at Powerline Park.
