Blake Gardner and Jesse Shedden each picked up double class wins at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park during round three of the Racers’ Edge-sponsored M2X Racing Motocross Series. Gardner was perfect in both the 65cc (9-11) and 85cc Open classes. Shedden was equally impressive in the 50cc (0-6) A and 50cc Open classes, in which he collected four straight moto wins.
Gardner started off things with a wire-to-wire romp in the first 65cc (9-11) moto, aboard his KTM. Peyton Marks managed to keep Gardner in his sights throughout the moto but would have to settle for a second-place finish, ahead of T.J. Sanders, Isaac Wilson and Justin Lundin.
Moto two was a duplicate of the first, as Gardner was out to an early lead, with Marks giving chase in second place. Marks stalked Gardner for a couple of circuits before going down and falling back to third place, behind Sanders.
Within a lap, Marks was back around Sanders, but by that time Gardner was long gone and on his way to the win. Sanders would finish in third again, over Wilson and Kayla Calnan.
Gardner was more of his dominant self in the 85cc Open class. The Kawasaki-mounted Gardner was pretty much flawless in both motos, leading from the drop of the gate to the waving of the checkers each time out. Mikey Lundin flew his Honda to a pair of strong second-place finishes. Jacob Brown rounded out the top three with a 3-3 showing, over Nathan Sall (4-4) and Cassidy Mitchell (5-5).
The 50cc Open class was one of the largest classes of the day. When the gate dropped for first-moto action, Shedden quickly made his way to the front of the field. Shedden would go uncontested for the first-moto victory. Tyler Kipp gated in second place and would hold that position for the entire race. Kipp came under fire during the final two laps from the likes of Nathan Jackson, Zane Smith and Braydon Tharp. Jackson finished right on the back fender of Kipp for a close third-place finish, followed by Smith and Tharp.
Shedden was off to another great start in moto two, with Smith keeping him honest in second place. Shedden went the distance for the double-moto sweep of the pack. Smith’s runner-up effort earned him third in the final standings, behind the 2-3 tally of Kipp. Jackson went 3-4 for fourth, over the 5-5 finishes of Tharp.
The 50cc (0-6) A class was all Shedden’s, as he went wire to wire in both motos to collect yet another first-place trophy. Robert Lundin went 2-2 for second overall, followed by the 3-3 tally of Connor Calnan.
Yamaha-mounted Nicole Smith cleaned up in the Women’s Amateur contest. Well, actually it wasn’t much of a contest; Smith ran away with both moto victories on her YZ250F. A 2-2 score earned Cassidy Mitchell second overall on the results board at the end of the day, topping the 3-3 tally of Mary Ann Seevers and the 4-4 score of Kayla Ridgely.
Spencer Burns went four for four in moto wins to top the Vet Amateur and 450cc Intermediate classes. Aaron Wolff was runner-up to Burns in both 450cc Intermediate races, with Alex H. doing the same in the Vet Amateur field. Cameron Fauset claimed third overall in the Vet class, ahead of Chad Bennett (4-4).
Jacob Esler turned a couple of good starts into a 1-1 sweep of the 85cc Beginner ranks. Esler slowly inched away from second-place finisher Erik Roder to see the checkers first in opening-moto action. Ryley Jackson crossed the line in third, followed by Daniel LaFaille and Vincent Ramos.
Brenden Bluff, who only managed a sixth-place finish in the opening moto, rebounded with a strong second-place finish in moto two to end up fourth overall on the day. Jackson (3-3) ended up on top of a points tie with Roder (2-4) for second overall in the final standings.
