When in doubt, go to the races.

That is a saying that more racers should go by when wondering if the track will be fine and whether or not people will be racing there. It was a most pristine day for this final CALVMX race of the year. The skies were clear and there was plenty of sunshine on a nicely prewatered track, courtesy of the rain that had fallen throughout the week.

“Fight for Ocotillo Wells” was the theme of this day’s race, as this club and its participants pitched in to save the right for riders to ride dirt bikes on that land. There were 11 races, with the whole event starting off with a Kenny Zahrt memorial parade lap.

Enjoy the following photographic portfolio of this race…

... and Lori Payne is that person. She knew Kenny Zahrt – perhaps closer than anyone else here on this day – and had the banner “Kenny Zahrt – 402 – Roost in Peace” on the back of her jersey.

Through the same turn on the next lap, now Mike Bierman (550) is ahead of Scott Piddington (9). The day was not all perfect for Piddington, who went off the path and got a little wet in one patch of water. “I took a complete bath from top to bottom,” Scott said. “I did a face-plant.”
