Race Report by Braydon Bland, Supermini
Round one of NHHA was here, and my family and I would pack up and leave to California for the weekend. Friday afternoon, I geared up and rode around to see how the bike felt. Later that night, Patty [Blais] made delicious chicken kabobs for us to eat. Afterwards, we made our way back to the hotel, went for a swim in the pool, and went to bed.

Saturday morning, we got up early, drove out to the race, and I spent more time getting the feel of the bike, then went to go scope out an awesome line. After that, I watched my teammate Cole [Timboe] not get the best start but come into the pits in first with the lead!

Then, after the girls and 65s went, it was then the Superminis’ time to race!

The banner went up and the butterflies kicked in, as always. I impatiently waited for the banner to drop. It dropped, and I kicked my bike – and it didn’t start. I pulled my kickstart out again and kicked, and it would not start again. I pulled it out one more time and kicked, and it finally fired. I was then dead last off the start and had to find a different line through the riders.

I went way out where I was out of the dust and tried to make up as much time as I could. About one mile in, I was already into second. I could not get around the first rider, as the course narrowed down into some gnarly rocks and some washes. Coming back heading towards the pits, I was right on him.

We left the pits, and I knew where I wanted to make a pass on him. We came to the location where I felt I could make the pass. I went for it but had some bike failures that would put me out of the race.

I would like to thank all my sponsors for making everything happen, my mom and dad, Blais Racing, Fasst Co., X Brand Goggles, Rekluse Motorsports, TLD, FMF, Alpinestars, Race Tech, IMS, Maxilube, AM’E, RMOR FX, and everybody else who supports me throughout my racing.
