Race Report by Brendan Crow, Third Open A, 22nd Overall
After having two amazing races at the Adelanto GP and at the Jackrabbits D37 race, I was confident and ready to start the NHHA Series. I felt that I had made some very positive bike changes over the break and I wanted to start things off on a good note.

I headed out Saturday to do the usual pre-race routine and make any changes I felt I needed. Unfortunately, we were unable to run the bomb on Saturday, so most of the day was spent exploring around and getting acclimated. As night fell, we had a great dinner with the Blais team, and after watching Supercross, we headed to bed for a good night’s sleep.

Sunday morning, I started to get really nervous, and I did my best to eat breakfast even though I was having a hard time stomaching food. I only was able to eat a muffin, which turned out to be not nearly enough.

I got geared up and ran the bomb, and although I was confused after getting lost, I found a good spot on the line. As the start time grew nearer, I was doing my best to stay calm and focus on having a good race. As the banner went up, I took a few deep breaths and waited for the mayhem to begin.

The banner dropped, and I had a great jump. I rocketed off the line and had no one in front of me. I was able to make it to the end of the bomb in the top 10, and I was really excited to have a good start! Unfortunately, I was letting my nerves get to me, as I rode a bit crazy. I lost a few positions while this happened, but I calmed down and got into a good pace.

I was having a good time on the first loop and was able to come in the pits in 14th overall. After a quick pit, I set off to maintain the pace I had.

The second loop was much tighter and rockier than the first, and I was struggling to ride through it without mistakes. Within the first few miles, I lost a couple positions and had one big crash, which left my front brake mangled. I tried to continue riding anyway, but my front brake kept grabbing and causing me to make more mistakes.

About halfway through the second loop, I was finally fed up with my brake and stopped to try and fix the problem. As I did this, I watched a huge group of riders ride right past me. I was able to make an adjustment and get going pretty quickly, so I set off to try and regain some positions.

At this point in the race, I was feeling the effects of riding poorly, and I was getting really hungry and feeling very tired as I tried to turn my race around. Unfortunately, I was unable to catch back up and had to settle for 22nd overall and third place Open A.

Although I’m not super pleased with how I finished, being able to come away with a podium on a subpar day leaves me confident for the remainder of the series. I will continue to strive to repeat my championship from last year, and I will only become stronger as the year goes on.
