The Southern California Flat Track Association was ready for the debut of the first round of its annual 12-round Championship Series, but Mother Nature had other ideas and rained on the parade, forcing the postponement of the February 28 round. Round one will now be raced on March 28, and the makeup for the rained-out round will be raced on Sunday, June 21, as the second day of a weekend doubleheader following Saturday evening’s round five.

After the postponement was announced, several racers flocked to the race-prepared layout anyway and, under ideal conditions, put their hotshoes to work.

The 2013 SCFTA Pro Champion, Nick Armstrong, was on the flat track to get in some practice and dial in his setup for the impending 2015 American Motorcyclist Association Grand National Championship Series. The 25-year-old slider migrated from his early motocross background, racing at the purist REM events in his early years. Once he started racing dirt track in 2011, he has not looked back, and he has escalated his skills to the elite level – GNC racing.

Racing in the GNC since 2012 – with relatively little experience compared to his racing brethren, some of whom have been sliding most of their lives – Armstrong has been a fast learner, and he sped to his best overall points standings in 2014, with an 11th. He did markedly well on the mile venues of Sacramento and Indianapolis, placing third at both rounds. He placed seventh at Pomona and at Daytona’s round one, and scored an eighth at Calistoga.

Armstrong will be embarking on a full GNC series run this year, and obviously he has the potential to win races and finish high in the 2015 Pro Singles Championship. Armstrong sends word to the SCFTA, Southland Racing, Race Tech, G&G Racing, Lessley Brothers and Bell Helmets.

Good luck, Nick!
