GEICO EnduroCross Championship Series
Round 1: Ocean Center

This year, Bike Week kicked off with a brand-new racing event called “EnduroCross.” In the year 2000, EnduroCross debuted as a Support race to the Barcelona Trial Indoor. The tracks consist of off-road obstacles such as rocks, large logs, jumps, and giant tires, and is usually held indoors, in small arenas.

Which on this night was a good thing, as it was cool and raining outside but warm and smoky inside the Ocean Center.

The very first EnduroCross in the United States was held as a one-off race in Las Vegas, with Ryan Hughes taking the win. The EnduroCross Series started in 2007. Taddy Blazusiak has dominated the series, winning from 2009 through 2013 but losing to Cody Webb in 2014. So Webb would be returning to the series in 2015 with the number one on his plate, and Taddy would return to Poland to compete in the Super Enduro World Championship.

Bike Week Ironman Kevin Rookstool (123) placed eighth in the Men’s Pro class at the EnduroCross on Friday and went on to compete in the Supercross event on Saturday and the GNCC event on Sunday.

Cody Webb picked up where he left off last year – by winning the opener, after battling with Kyle Redmond, Colton Hacker and Mike Brown. Redmond took take the lead in the first part of the 15-lap race on the demanding course before Webb took over and pulled way.

Colton Haaker rode a consistent pace to finish in second. Redmond fought his way back from some crashes in the rocks to take a podium finish in third.

Brown, who had the fastest hot lap before the main event, would have a number of fall-overs, including a big flying-W fender-biter, on his way to finishing in sixth place.

A father-and-son team made the main: longtime fan favorite Destry Abbott and his son Cooper, after Cooper won the Amateur main.
