Match 1: Ventura Aces, 46 – Orange County Rebels, 41
The 2014-15 Winter League title went to the Aces after their top-end power proved too much for the gallant Rebels in the latter stages of the match. As expected, the USA “Turbo Twins” – Max Ruml and Broc Nicol – went undefeated (aside from Nicol’s opening-ride mechanical breakdown), and their 31 points set the stage for their team to win.

That said, it was far from a two-rider effort.

On this particular occasion, when all was said and done, Hayley Perrault and Damon Barry, who both contributed a solid six points, made the difference.

For the Rebels, the top-two duo of Russell Green and Luke Becker worked hard for their points, but they could not shut down Ruml and Nicol.

Sean McDougall and an inspired Mike Dalbey ruled the middle-order roost, while Rohn Zellner’s two wins as reserve kept the scores close and tied after 12 races.

The best race of the match was heat 12, when Damon Barry and Steve Brown traded second place close to half a dozen times.

The Aces riders and team manager Peter Davenport celebrated with champagne and trophies after the expected Ruml-and-Nicol 5-1 tally in heat 15.

Match 2: Victorville Vikings, 51– Perris Eagles, 39
After 10 closely fought heats, the Vikings ensured themselves third place with three 5-1s in the last five races. Former World Champion Billy Hamill went through the card with 15 points, and he recorded three 5-1s with his son Kurtis.

Braydan Galvin, who returned to the team after missing the second event, was a revelation with 9+1 and his best 500cc performance to date. Dryden Gayle recorded two race wins, and one each from Harold Hartke and Dillon Ruml was enough to secure the win.

Austin Novratil led the Eagles well, including three fine victories. A scary crash in heat 13, in which he got unexpected drive and launched into Billy Hamill’s body and took them both down, ended his night.

Nathan Siegel was the only other Eagles heat-race winner on the night.

Additional Classes
Aside from the team racing, there were another 21 races for seven Divisions, as well as four full race-simulated test runs for World Champion Greg Hancock, who attended the event to finalize the preparations for his 2015 season.

The 150cc Mini class had three winners in Division Two. Skylar Schnakenberg won heat one. Heat two went to Dakota Shockley. The main event had to be restarted twice and was won by Luke Whitcomb, who came from the back to beat Andrew Russell. The victory was remarkable, as Whitcomb had crashed heavily in the first staging and initially did not look fit to continue.

Jake Isaac won both 150cc Division One heats, but a hard-fought battle in the main saw him relegated to second, behind Sara Cords.

Both Pee Wee classes had clean sweeps. Rachel Schnakenberg won all Division Two races, while Travis Horn swept Division One, coming from 80 yards back.

Sebastian Palmese was the only 250cc rider, but he swept support-class riders in his match races.

Division Three saw a three-ride clean sweep from Tom Bryant.

Division Two saw Steve Bowen take both heat-race wins, but he was left behind because of a bad start in the main, which was won by Bentley Barrett.

This event concluded a very successful and well-supported Team Racing League season. The track has announced three more dates for events in the upcoming months: April 11 will be Handicap and Scratch racing, May 9 will be a Team Cup event (run in Speedway World Cup format), and August 1 will be the “Fast Eddie” Castro Testimonial event.
