STOURPORT-ON-SEVERN, ENGLAND, MAR. 8, 2015
The season-opening DQR MCF British Quad XC Championship round took place at Stourport. The day started dry and fine, but the rain began just before 11 a.m., making the track greasy and wet for the 12.30 p.m. start.
More than 20 4×4 and a small 4×4 Lites-class contestants lined up among more than 120 quad riders, ready to take on the challenging, long-lap enduro track. With the race scheduled for 2½ hours, the track and conditions looked set to test the riders and the new Polaris Scrambler 1000 XP.
A fantastic start from Jon Morgan saw him take the class holeshot, closely followed by his teammate Martin Benbow – a great start for the new team, heading a gaggle of competitors to the first turn. Kev Jones and Steve Williams both had good starts as well, settling into the front of the pack.
Benbow quickly overhauled Morgan and set a blistering pace on the new Scrambler, testing the Evans coolant and Carlisle tires hard. All stood up to the punishment flawlessly, and Benbow came home a clear first. After a poor start, dark horse Chris Nelson of JMK Polaris worked his way up through the field to take the second spot. Morgan came home in third.
This was a fantastic result, with Jones and Williams taking strong top-end class finishes, too. This was the perfect start to our inaugural Factory Racing season.
