Mike Gonzales, 32Y

It’s a sad day anytime we lose a friend, a racer, a family member. Today is one of those days.

Mike Gonzales.

Mike Gonzales.

Mike Gonzales and Jeff Gonzales traveled to the races together, competed cleanly yet ferociously on the track, and were great buddies off the track. They both raced the Vintage classes in the Eddie Mulder West Coast Dirt Track Series, at the Chowchilla Barnburner events and at other venues around California.

Two years ago, Mike was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Mike was one of nicest guys who showed up at the races. He had a heart of gold. It always made me happy to see Mike and Jeff at the track. Not too long ago, Mike came out to the races for a little while.

With grace, Mike fought a gallant fight against this crippling disease over the last two years. On Sunday, March 22, Mike’s fight came to an end. He left us to race at that big track above.

Godspeed, Mike Gonzales. You will be missed.
