Washington’s Dallas Nyblod, riding Jawa and Yamaha machinery, wrangled three overall wins at round four of the AHRMA Northwest Regional Vintage Motocross Series, held at Crooked River Ranch in central Oregon. Nyblod netted the overall Premier 500cc, Classic 500cc and Over 50 Expert-class wins on the high desert, all coming via 1-1 sweeps.

Nyblod’s first overall win came in the Premier class, in which he easily thumped to a 1-1 sweep. After a pair of decisive holeshots, Nyblod put huge ground on the rest of the competition, with Triumph-mounted Oregonian Jim Cole placing second.

In the adjoined Intermediate class, Matchless rider Ron Predmore posted a win with his 1-1 finishes, followed by likewise-mounted Dave Armstrong and Chuck Hodson.

Nyblod came right back to capture a win in the Classic 500cc class; in the end, it was much like his earlier win. Washington’s Bill Stuth traded second-place finishes with Dave Bachmeier to net second overall, followed by Bachmeier (2-3), Steve Newell (4-4) and Cole (5-5).

Nyblod trounced the competition in the Over 50 Expert class, this time riding a 1974 Yamaha YZ250. Nyblod garnered holeshots in both motos to complete his perfect six-for-six tally on the day. (He also went six-for-six in the holeshot department.) Maico rider Steve Gard placed second to Nyblod in both motos to net second overall, followed by Chris Castles.

Honda-mounted Andrew Carpenter scored a pair of overall wins on the day, despite not winning any of the four motos in which he competed. Sheer consistency was Carpenter’s best friend, as he thumped to 2-2 placings in both classes.

In the Sportsman 250cc Expert and Intermediate classes, which ran combined, Carpenter only trailed Expert riders David Parks and Sean Light, as well as Intermediate winner Tom Pelton in moto one.

Moto two went to Parks, who was most likely the fastest rider on the track on this day, as he posted Sportsman 125cc and 250cc Expert-class victories at the conclusion – not taking anything away from the impressive Carpenter, who had his hands full with first Sean Light, who would later DNF, and then eventual Intermediate winner William Buob, who went 4-1 on the day and trailed Carpenter and Pelton (1-4) overall.

David Parks (57) won the Sportsman 125cc and 250cc Expert classes at Crooked River Ranch.

Penton rider Mickey Sergeant ruled the Sportsman 125cc Expert class and stood atop the podium after two impressive rides. CZ rider Ed Shandl and Husky jockey Dave Whelchel were Sergeant’s closest competitors, although neither could get past the Oregonian, who went 1-1 on the day.

In the adjoined Intermediate class, William Buob, riding a Husky, used 3-3 placings to net the top position, ahead of his fellow Husqvarna jockey Todd Bohnet, who won moto two, but a sixth-place finish in moto one left him second overall, ahead of Mark Swanson (2-5).

Husqvarna-mounted Nancy Richards was a double-class winner, posting the overall Open Age Novice and Over 50 Novice victories, both via 1-1 wins.

Her traveling partner, Paul Nielson, who happens to be Nancy’s father-in-law, scored a win in the Over 70 Novice class on the day.
