Race Report by Braydon Bland, Amateur
Coming into the next round of USRA at Knolls, Utah, was nerve-wracking for me, because I know what the terrain is like. Friday I ate a good dinner and went to bed, woke up early and headed out with Skyler [Howes] and Kadin [Guard].

We arrived, and I watched the Minis race, and my buddy Burke [Barnes] came out with the overall win! I went back to my trailer and got ready for the race. On the way over to the start, I scoped out all of the dunes that we would drop off; there was about four of them. I had a good line, and we started right at the face of the dune. I watched all of the Experts go and could no longer see them after they were over the dunes. The banner went up, and we all shut our bikes off.

The banner dropped, and I had a first-kick [start] but was outpowered by the 250s around me. As we went up over the dune, I looked over and I was around 20th, judging by how many bikes were in front of me. I made my way into about eighth by the end of the dunes.

I charged really hard to try and get out front. I made my way into third. I could then see first and second the whole way around the first loop until about the last mile.

I came into the pits, got gas, and headed back out. I was trying my hardest to try and spot them again but couldn’t make it happen. They were on a whole different level than what I was on.

After another good lap, I went out onto my third lap. I was feeling good. About two or three miles left to go, I got passed by [the fourth-place rider]. I tried to hang on to him, but he was much faster through the deep whoops than I was. I ended my race with a fourth overall Amateur!

Got to give it to the top three Amateurs – they were haulin’!

At the finish, Braydon Bland was fourth overall Amateur.
