Brayden Tharp (415) used consistent 2-2 finishes to top the 50cc (7-8) B field at round five of the M2X Racing/ MotocrossGiant Dirt Series.

Consistency paid off for KTM-mounted Brayden Tharp, as he took home the first-place trophy in the 50cc (7-8) B class without winning either moto at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park, during the fifth and final round of the M2X Racing/ MotocrossGiant Dirt Series.

Aaron Wolff (986) came out on top of the 450cc Intermediate and Big Bike Open classes.

The crowd on hand saw Austin Abernathy put his KTM at the front of the pack as moto one got under way, ahead of Katelynn Ridgely, Tharp and Robbie Stephenson. Abernathy quickly put a few seconds on Ridgely, who had her hands full with Tharp and Stephenson.

Jesse Shedden (09) went 1-1 in the 50cc Open class.

Stephenson went down at about the midway point, freeing up Tharp to reel in Ridgely by the penultimate lap. Abernathy seemed to have the win in the bag, but a bobble on the white-flag lap dropped him back to a sixth-place finish. Ridgely was handed the first-moto victory. Tharp was a close second. Bastian Eisenholt worked his way up from a back-of-the-back start to finish in third place, ahead of Stephenson and Nathan Santos.

Morgan Stoffer (99) took home the first-place trophy in the Women’s Amateur class – in her first-ever race.

Abernathy was off to another great start in moto two, leading Tharp, Stephenson and Eisenholt. Abernathy duplicated his first-moto performance by running out front for the entire race, but this time staying up on the white-flag lap to see the checkers first. Tharp spent the moto in the runner-up position all the way until the checkers fell to claim the overall honors on his consistent 2-2 showing. Ridgely gated in fifth place and wasn’t able to advance during the course of the race, but still ended up second overall in the final standings, over Abernathy (6-1) and Stephenson (4-3).

Eventual 65cc Beginner-class overall winner Kyler Burton (121) leads Damien Coleman (33), Xander Ojeda (7), Ryan Chaussee (379), Joshua Black (656) and the rest of the pack at the start of moto one.

Robert Hoskins was flawless in the first 65cc Open-class moto. Hoskins put his KTM out front on the opening lap and simply outran the rest of the field for a most convincing victory. T.J. Sanders would have to settle for a second-place finish, a few seconds ahead of Ryder Garcia, Kyler Burton and Mackenzie Caverhill.

Robert Hoskins (515) was runner-up in the 50cc Open class and took the win in the 65cc (0-8) class.

Moto two was a repeat of the first one, as Hoskins shot out to an immediate lead. Garcia held down second place, with Sanders shadowing his every move.

All bets were on Hoskins pulling off a double-moto sweep of the class, but with just a couple of turns remaining on the final lap, he got out of shape coming out of a sweeper and went down. Hoskins was back up and under way in quick order, but not before both Sanders and Garcia had sneaked by.

Sanders’ second-moto win gave him the overall victory on the day, topping the 1-3 effort of Hoskins. Garcia’s 3-2 tally rounded out the top three, ahead of Caverhill (5-4) and Kyler Burton (4-5).

T.J. Sanders (924) went 2-1 to win the 65cc Open class. He also topped the 65cc (9-11) class.

Way at the other end of the age spectrum, Yamaha-mounted Denny Ryan had an outstanding first-moto ride in the Super Senior Amateur ranks. Ryan absconded with the holeshot on his YZ450F and was untouchable, leading every lap of the race to greet the checkers first. Jeff Hendricksz tried his best to whittle away at Ryan’s early lead and was making ground on his quest but just plain ran out of laps, and he would have to be content with a second-place finish. Art Dart finished all by himself in third place, ahead of Max Yakel, Gary Doll and Terry Whytal.

Ethan Butts (37) went 1-1 in the 50cc Beginner field.

The second-moto start belonged to Hendricksz. Ryan was buried about midpack.

Hendricksz made it look easy as he cruised around in the lead all the way to the checkers to claim another overall victory in the class. Ryan put in a great ride to fight his way all the way up into second place for second overall in the final standings. Dart rounded out the podium with another third-place finish, over Yakel (4-4), Doll (5-5) and Whytal (6-6).

Jeff Hendricksz (914) picked up another win in the Super Senior Amateur class, with 2-1 rides.

Zachary Bumbaca and Trevor Taylor were inseparable at the front throughout the first moto of the 250cc Beginner class, with Taylor prevailing in the end.

Ryder Garcia (24) had a busy day, winning the 50cc (7-8) A class, finishing second in the 65cc (0-8) field and rounding out the top three in the 65cc Open class.

Moto two was more of the same, as Bumbaca edged out Taylor on the start and then kept him at bay for the entire race for the hard-fought second-moto win and the overall honors. Adam Hauck went 3-3 for third, over Ryan Kelly and David Lowenthal Jr.

Zachary Bumbaca (299) flew to the second-moto victory in the 250cc Beginner class to sew up the overall win.
