The 50th running of the Sacramento Mile is tomorrow, Saturday, May 30.

There are a number of reasons to go to Sacramento this weekend…

Ride the Mile
You can ride the Mile and help injured racers at the same time. The AMA Pro Flat Track Rookie Class of ’79 and Friends have arranged for you to have the opportunity to participate in a parade lap on your street bike as part of the opening ceremonies. For a tax-deductible donation of just $25, fans can line up behind current and retired stars of Grand National Championship Flat Track Racing for one lap around the track. The money will go to the Injured Riders Fund to help riders and their family.

Last year, the Rookie Class of ’79 and Friends assisted 25 Amateur and Professional riders, dispersing more than $40,000. You can sign up in advance and pay via PayPal or by credit card or check or money order.

Jim Rice to be Grand Marshal at the Sacramento Mile
Jim Rice is probably best remembered for his crash into the outside fence at the Sacramento Mile, because it was captured on film and featured in the movie On Any Sunday. He was one of the most successful motorcycle racers in America in the late 1960s and early ’70s. During six years of professional racing, he won 12 AMA Nationals on various-sized tracks. Rice has been inducted into both the Trailblazers and AMA Halls of Fame. They picked a very special guy to be Grand Marshal this year. Congratulations, Jim!

Bryan Smith’s Four-Race Sacramento Winning Streak
Can he make it five? He will have some stiff competition: Kenny Coolbeth Jr. and current Grand National Champion Jared Mees are just seven points apart, with Kenny in the lead, so the racing should be intense!

Chris Carr and Jay Springsteen Rematch
Remember the race last year between these legends? How could you forget? They are back, and we expect fantastic racing in their rematch. They both have previously won the Sacramento Mile and both are multiple-time Grand National Champions. Who are you betting on?
