ITP MX Team Nets 12 Wins at First-Ever Ironman MX

The ITP Tires ATV motocross racing team had a successful weekend at the inaugural Ironman MX event in Crawfordsville, Indiana, winning a dozen classes. Despite heavy rains that drenched the course for some classes, the team earned 19 podiums at round five of the Mtn. Dew ATV MX National Championship Series.

“In spite of some heavy downpours, many of our racers overcame the elements, conditions and competition to earn big wins and, in other classes, valuable podium finishes in an effort to maintain their championship hopes,” said Pat McGuire, in charge of public relations and race support for ITP Tires. “We currently have seven racers leading their respective classes in points and 14 additional riders who are in the top three in their class standings, so we will continue to push for wins at every round.”

Round five of the 2015 Mountain Dew ATV MX National Championship Series, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, made its first-ever stop at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana, a site that is new to four-wheel motocross but that has hosted the most popular GNCC Grand National Cross Country race for many years. ITP had dozens of racers competing in several classes, including the Pro and Pro-Am divisions, as well as numerous Amateur categories for riders of various ages and skills.

Five racers posted two wins apiece using ITP tires, earning 10 of the team’s 12 victories in Indiana.

“Factory Sam” Rowe rode his Root River Racing/ Rage ATV/ Pepsi-backed Honda outfitted with ITP tires. His strategy included running ITP QuadCross 2 shorts 20×6-10 and QuadCross 18×10-8 rears on Saturday and then QuadCross 2 long 20×6-10 and GNCC 20×10-9 rears in the mud on Sunday. Rowe posted 1-1 moto sweeps in both the Pro-Am and Pro Sport (Pro-Am/ A) classes to earn his first moto wins and overall victories of the year.

Walsh/ Bard Machine-backed Suzuki racer Cody Gifford won the Production A class (with a 2-3 tally) and also the 450cc A class (via a 1-1 sweep) to extend his points lead in both classes.

Riding the number-33 Honda backed by Root River Racing, Rage ATV, Motowoz RRR and ITP, Tyler Mack won three of the four motos he entered to earn victories in the 450cc B and Production B classes. He’s currently third in the 450cc B standings, and he is the points leader in Production B.

Two Youth racers also tallied double victories in Indiana.

Cheerwine/ JB Racing/ Hetrick Racing/ Makson-backed Grayson Eller put his ITP-clad ATV on the box in two Schoolboy classes – Senior and Junior – notching his first overall wins of the season.

Not to be outdone, Zimmerman Racing/ Makson/ FTR’s Peyton Zimmerman took his number-721 Honda to victory in the Youth All Star (13-15) and Supermini (12-15) classes. He’s the current Youth All Star-class points leader.

Megan Manshack has won all four rounds in which she has competed in the Women’s class this year. The Ironman MX finish was her fourth 1-1 sweep of 2015.

Suzuki racer Lucas Lamons also scored his first overall win of 2015 with a 1-1 moto sweep in the Junior (Over 25) class.

Team ITP racers also had several second-place finishes in Indiana: Honda-mounted Haedyn Mickelson, in the 450cc A class; Can-Am rider Logan Dusenberry, in the 450cc B class; Can-Am-mounted Maddie Guyer, in the Women’s class; and JB Racing’s Johanna Vossman, in the Schoolgirl (13-17) class all finished runner-up in at least one class. Youth racers Brogan Guyer had two third-place finishes and Niamh Shaw posted on third-place finish at round five.

Round six of the Mountain Dew ATV MX National Championship Series is slated to stop at Sunset Ridge in Walnut, Illinois, on June 13 and 14.
