Conley Kautz and Jesse Shedden were definitely on their game at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park, as they dominated the 450cc Novice and 50cc Open classes respectively, during round two of the M2X Racing’s Smokin’ Summer Motocross Series.

Jorge Rodriquez (77) won the Vet Amateurs contest, Fred Steele (696) topped the Senior Amateurs, and Eric Casas (103) would hold off Garry Conner (1Z) for the Super Senior Masters-class victory.

Kautz and his YZ450F were pretty much untouchable in the opening 450cc Novice moto. Kautz won the drag race to the first turn and never looked back. Cameron Tribbey had his YZ250 running in second place, and by the end of lap two Kyle Prelewicz was running a close third, keeping Tribbey honest.

Cameron Tribbey (211) finished third overall in the 450cc Novice class.

Conley took the win with room to spare. Tribbey appeared to have the runner-up finish in the bag until he overshot a turn on the white-flag lap and went down. Both Prelewicz and Kurt Hulsey slipped past Tribbey to finish in second and third, respectively. Tribbey got back under way in time to salvage fourth, ahead of Ryan Grafft.

Gage Nelson (13) topped the 450cc Beginner field on his Kawasaki.

The second-moto start belonged to Kautz. Tribbey and Prelewicz wasted little time in finding each other and arguing over second place. Kautz motored away to greet the checkers first in convincing fashion for a sweep of the field. Prelewicz and Tribbey were not more than a couple of seconds apart throughout the entire moto, with Prelewicz prevailing in the end for second overall in the final standings. Tribbey’s 4-3 score topped the 3-5 finishes of Hulsey for third. Grafft went 5-4 to round out the top five.

David Dueitt (44) won the 50cc Beginner class and was third overall in the 50cc Open class as well.

Shedden was just as impressive in the 50cc Open ranks. Shedden outran everyone to turn one in both motos and was never contested. Braydon Tharp was runner-up in the first moto aboard his KTM, but he failed to make the starting gate for moto two, which handed the second-place trophy to Ethan Butts on his 3-2 rides. David Dueitt (4-3) rounded out the top three finishers, ahead of Robert Lundin Jr. (5-4) and Brodyn Nester (6-5).

Jesse Shedden (09) flew to a perfect two-moto sweep of the 50cc Open class.

Honda-mounted Art Dart had an easy time in the Super Senior Amateur class on this day. Dart made it look easy as he ran away with both moto victories. Tom Vanmeter piloted his KTM to a pair of second-place finishes, ahead of Gary Doll (3-3) and Terry Whytal (4-4).

Art Dart (2) ran off with double-moto victories in the Super Senior Amateur class.

Evan Ziel was perfect in the 50cc (7-8) B outing. Ziel went wire to wire for the opening-moto victory, over Austin Abernathy. The real race on the track was for third place, among Braydon Tharp, Landon Deckard and Katelynn Ridgely, with Tharp prevailing in the end.

Evan Ziel (70) was untouchable in the 50cc (7-8) B contest.

Moto two was a carbon copy of the first one, as Ziel motored away with another win. Abernathy finished all by himself in second place again, ahead of another great battle over third, with Tharp getting the job done again, over Deckard and Ridgely.
