Washingtonians Mark Sullivan and Bailey Fox were among the big winners at the 31st annual Dino Daze Vintage Motocross, held at Straddleline MX Park, near Olympia. The motocross race opened up a weekend of festivities at the event, which also included a swap meet, a bike show and flat-track races. Competitors from all over the Northwest and British Columbia were on hand for this event, which was promoted by the Tacoma Motorcycle Club.

Sullivan, riding CZ and Yamaha machinery, was victorious in the Over 50 Vintage and Over 50 Post-Vintage Expert classes.

He picked up his first overall win of the day in the Over 50 Vintage class, in which he had brutally tough competition from Bailey Fox’s uncle, Tony Fox, who hounded Sullivan in both motos. However, in the end, it went Sullivan’s way. Tony Fox, Ed Hines, Neil Giertsen and Vern Buck rounded out the top five.

CZ- and Yamaha-mounted Mark Sullivan (675) was a three-class contestant at the 31st annual Dino Daze Vintage Motocross, held at Straddleline Cycle Park in Washington. Sullivan topped the Over 50 Post-Vintage Expert class and placed second in two other classes.

Things were also tough for Sullivan in the Open Two-Stroke Expert class, in which he faced last year’s big winner, Bailey Fox.

Sullivan led the first moto from start to finish, edging Bailey and CZ-mounted Oregonian Sean Light. The Maico-mounted Fox and Light went back and forth throughout the moto, with Fox netting second.

Moto two went Fox’s way, and he was followed across the line by Sullivan and Light.

Tom Sheard, a longtime Dino Daze competitor, was the overall Intermediate-class winner, ahead of CZ rider Mark Percy and Corey Poitras.

Washington’s Bailey Fox (52) leads Oregon’s Sean Light (672) in the Open Two-Stroke Expert class. Fox won moto two to take the overall victory after trailing Mark Sullivan in moto one. Light placed third overall.

Sullivan rebounded well after the narrow loss by topping all comers in the Over 50 Post-Vintage Expert class to garner his second of two overall wins on the day. Rich Merritt and Oregon’s Steve Miles rounded out the top three, while former Pro rider Ron Burkett beat David Anderson to top the Intermediate portion.

Ryan Stevenson (260) won the 250cc Sportsman Expert class on a 1974 Husqvarna.

Bailey Fox led a large contingent of Post-Vintage riders to the finish in the 250cc Post-Vintage Expert class. The class seems to grow each year, and for the first year, Revolution (1981-89) and Sunset (1990-93) classes were added, riding the wave of popularity for the long-travel classes in the Northwest. Fox and his fellow Honda rider Chris Sweet ran ahead of a close duel between Nathan Schibig and Sean Light in both motos, with Fox scoring a pair of moto wins to complement his earlier win in the 10-rider field.

Bailey Fox (75V) won the Post-Vintage 250cc Expert and Open Two-Stroke Vintage classes at Straddleline MX Park, site of the 31st annual Dino Daze Vintage Motocross.

Of course, there were the “staple” classes that have been a part of the event since its inception, such as the Vintage Four-Stroke class, which was won by Tyler Gaddy on his ultra-trick Yamaha. Gaddy not only topped a large field of riders in the Four-Stroke class, which included AHRMA Experts Chris Castles of Canada and Dirk Murphy of Washington, but the local rider also put it to the field in the day’s final event, the Gran Prix. Past winners of the illustrious Gran Prix have included the late Jim Pomeroy, Doug Grant, Tom Rapp, Dallas Nyblod and Grayson Hart, to name just a few. Gaddy’s name now joins that list of riders, and many more, to be etched into the Dino Daze Perpetual Trophy.
