A story about Sammy Tanner appears in the current July/August issue of the UK periodical Classic Racer Magazine.

As a child, Sammy wanted to grow up and race against his idol, a Houston-area motorcycle and car racer named A.J. Foyt. It wasn’t long before Foyt quit racing the Triumph twin and concentrated on the cars, but Sammy Tanner went on to become the dominant motorcycle racer at Ascot Park in Southern California, winning on both Triumph and BSA machinery.

Sammy Tanner, A.J. Foyt and Skip Van Leeuwen all contributed to the telling of this story. Classic Racer Magazine is available at most Barnes & Noble stores (call ahead to verify availability) or Motorsport Publications.
