The sixth annual Night Before The Indy Mile event at Mid-America Speedway featured a purse of $1,500 to win the Open Pro contest and $1,000 to win the Dash for Cash, and another $500 if you were using a D&D Exhaust.

National number six, factory Harley-Davidson rider Brad Baker, was followed closely in the Open Pro main by his older brother Scott Baker. Steve Bonsey, Sam Halbert and Kayl Kolkman rounded out the top five.

The night also saw Rich King edge out Rob Gessner for the win in the Super Senior Over 50 class. King would have a busy evening, as he also won the Over 30 contest and finished in sixth place in the Open Pro class.

Jackie Mitchell took the top spot in the Mike O’Neil Indian Arrow class. Mike had brought his well-prepped 1949 Indian Arrows. Rob Gessner took runner-up honors, finishing just ahead of Andy McRoberts at the checkers.

The Arrows’ last appearance at Mid-America was in 2011. The man responsible for bringing the seven 1949 Indian Arrow flat-track racers was Bob Stark, who passed away on June 28. If there is one person who could be credited with keeping the Indian legacy alive and strong from the closing of the original factory in 1953 until the marques’ recent success, this is the man. Hundreds of vintage Indians are on the road as a result of his efforts to make old and reproduction parts available. More importantly, he always took the time to share his mechanical and historical knowledge with anyone who had the desire to learn about the subject. He assembled the Arrows purely out of a desire to make people aware of an Indian model that had nearly been forgotten. The Arrows raced in Bob’s honor at Mid-America.

Here are some photographic highlights from the event. Results follow the photos…
