Making a rare “local” Amateur-event appearance, Cory Texter led several riders in scoring double-race wins at Path Valley Speedway’s second and final short-track event of the season. Texter scored wins in the Open A and 450cc Sportsman A divisions. While the top four were the same in both, the ways in which those results happened were very different.

Cory Texter (65), Derek Hersh (18A) and Mike Poe (83S) went one, two, three in the 450cc Sportsman A final at Path Valley Speedway.

In the Open A contest, Texter jumped out in front of Derek Hersh, Mike Poe and Austin Wherley and pulled away from the rest of the field, which gradually became evenly spaced from one another.

In the 450cc Sportsman A final, Poe and Hersh tried to slow Texter’s charge by getting in front off the start. However, with the riders getting spread out after the opening lap, Texter shot into the lead off turn four on the second lap. Hersh took second on the following lap.

The same classes on the Amateur side also had the same top three finishers, but the winner, Devon Gerhart, had a harder time.

In the Open B class, Jeremy Orr took the point, ahead of Gerhart, Chris Thomas, Justin Haag and Ronnie Mercer. For the next few laps, Gerhart and Orr traded the lead every other lap, with Gerhart taking the lead for good going into turn one on the sixth lap.

The Orr-and-Gerhart battle was held up briefly in the 450cc Sportsman B contest when Gerhart and Thomas tangled slightly off the start, so it was Orr leading Mercer, Thomas and Gerhart. Those latter two quickly got by Mercer, and Gerhart took the lead off turn four on the sixth lap.

In the 450cc Sportsman B final, it was Devon Gerhart (7B), Jeremy Orr (22A) and Chris Thomas (49) taking the top three spots.

Rich Mellinger scored a pair of age-class wins, in the Over 40 and Over 30 finals.

In the Over 40 outing, Mellinger easily outdistanced Lowell Wherley and Dallas Baer.

Rich Mellinger (86) and Jason Cunningham (36A) finished first and second, respectively, in the Over 30 class.

Tyler Scott again topped the 85cc and 65cc classes.

In the 85cc event, Scott got by Logan McGrane and Jared Florian off the second turn on the opening lap and pulled away.

The 65cc final ended up being a three-quarters-of-a-lap runaway for Scott. Dominick Cooper inadvertently tapped Tyler Cunningham off turn four on the final lap and took second.

Doug Cook jumped out in front of the 250cc B final, followed by Tyler Johnson, Damon Ream and Robert Wheatley. While Cook put some distance on the others, Ream finally got by Johnson off turn two on the fourth lap. Ream did cut into Cook’s margin, but he could not get close enough to mount a challenge for first.

Doug Cook (77U) was the 250cc B winner.

Ream came back later and challenged Justin Haag in the 125cc Two-Stroke/ 150cc Four-Stroke class, finally taking the lead with a dive under Haag off turn two on the seventh lap.

Damon Ream (17) topped the 125cc Two-Stroke/ 150cc Four-Stroke class. Justin Haag (101) was runner-up.

Legend Erisman led Aiden Hawthorne, Jack Rutherford and Aaden Johnson into the third turn in the 50cc Chain Drive final. Once he got rolling, Hawthorne took the lead entering turn one on the second lap. Rutherford then took second on the back straight on the fourth lap.

Aiden Hawthorne (28) won the 50cc Chain Drive contest.

After losing a close final the night before at Timonium, Dylan Dancy took the 50cc Shaft Drive lead right off the bat, ahead of Erisman, Hawthorne and Gabriel Mazza. Hawthorne and Mazza quickly got by Erisman, while Dancy pulled away. Mazza took second on the sixth lap. Within sight of the finish line, Dancy’s Yamaha seized, giving Mazza his first win.
