Round number seven of the CFTA/ AMA California Flat Track Championship on August 8 saw a return to the Chowchilla Afterburner track, a beautifully prepared eighth-mile cushion that is building upon its reputation with every event, attracting 143 entries for this event. Sheltered from the blistering San Joaquin Valley sun under the arena roof, the participants and spectators stayed cool, enjoying a wonderful race night.

The intensity of competition and speed of the riders in all classes was noticeable, prompting Feel Like a Pro Dirt CEO Brian Bartlow to proclaim, “This is the fastest group of Amateur flat-track riders I’ve ever seen assembled at a single event.”

Before the racing commenced, there was an honorary event for the late Jethro Halbert. In a touching tribute, his former teammate Mike Rush and his father-in-law Jon Nunes shared their personal thoughts and then rode together for an achingly slow and emotional backward lap to honor the man and his family. As the two made their way around the track, riders expressed their love, loss and pain – a touching moment to a racer who touched all in the community.

For round eight, the 2015 CFTA/AMA California Flat Track Championship will stops at Lemoore Raceway on Saturday, September 5. This event has elicited strong interest from fans and racers alike, and a large crowd of motorcycle and quad riders is expected. Lemoore Raceway is considered one of the finest motorsports facilities on the West Coast.
