PERRIS, CA, APR. 17, 2017
AMA National Championship Series Qualifier Speedway bikes will be at Perris Raceway this Saturday, April 22. Races start at 5 p.m. The top speedway racers in the nation will be running to try for a spot at the Nationals. There will also be support classes.
If you’re not into speedway, or if you want to drag that rusty Honda or Harley from the back yard and race it, there will be a Hell On Wheels at the other Perris facility, Farmers Fairground at Lake Perris.
The next SCFTA flat-track practice will be on April 29, from 4 to 9 p.m.
Round three of the Southern California Flat Track Association’s 2017 Series will take place on Saturday, May 13. Participant gates open at 12:30 p.m. Please do not enter the facility before that time without official permission. The riders’ meeting will begin about 3 p.m. Practice will start at 3:30.
Sound testing will be mandatory for all motorcycles. Check your packing – make sure it’s not too tight, or blown out. If it is packed and hard, it will act like a straight pipe and not absorb the sound, so pack it like a good pillow to get the most out of your muffler. If you have elbows on the end of the pipe, be sure they are directed away from the ground to avoid stirring up dust in the pit and staging areas.
It has been more than two years since the sound levels have been a request at Perris Raceway. It is now a requirement. Plan on getting there early, since you will not be allowed to practice or race without passing sound testing. If you do not get tested before practice, you will be tested during track prep. and your heat race will then be your practice. The required maximum sound level is 98 dB.
Spectators, please park across the street. The pits are crowded enough with the number of entries showing up. If you don’t have a bike in the back, pull in and drop off. Coolers are welcome, but please, no glass bottles.
Sadly, we lost one of our own this past weekend. Young Zaden Florez, a rising star in the Youth classes, succumbed to injuries suffered at a race. Zaden always had a smile and a happy word for everyone at the track. He will be sorely missed. [For more on Zaden, please see “Rest in Peace, Zaden Florez” by Karen Gould…Editor]
Meanwhile, there are still some spots open for Joe Kopp’s flat-track classes at Milestone this Friday. Come out and learn how to go fast from a multitime National champ!
See you at the races!
