Round five is here this weekend, and it’s gonna be hot!

We’re back into summer mode, so bring lots of shade and liquids to get through the day!

While the heat may be uncomfortable during the afternoon, once the sun heads for the horizon, things start to happen. The humidity we all curse during monsoon season is a blessing for the track. Moisture in the track won’t go away so soon, which means not as many laps by the water truck, and a better track surface for the main events.

Sound levels are still a priority. Make sure your mufflers are freshly packed, but not too tight! Think street-legal… sort of… and you’ll be fine.

Safety is also a concern. Riders must wear long sleeves and long pants. Decomposed granite at 40 to 50 mph can remove a lot of skin! Make sure you have the best equipment you can afford, including plastic and padding on all the corners (shoulders, elbows, knees and hips), a good full-face helmet (think road racing, not supercross), and leather boots and gloves that will hold up to a grinder.

The Old School Scrambles Racing Group is putting on a TT Scrambles race at Glen Helen on July 23. This one could be fun if it stays smooth! There will be a party on Saturday night, and the races will commence on Sunday.

In Other News…
Hell On Wheels ran its Hot Summer Nights short track last weekend. While the weather report of insane temperatures might have scared away a lot of riders, the ones who did show up were treated to overcast skies, gentle breezes, occasional sprinkles, and generally comfortable conditions. With only eight races, everybody got plenty of practice, two heat races, and 12-lap mains!

Another Hell On Wheels round is scheduled for Perris Raceway on August 5. We can’t make any promises about the weather, but the overnighters are a good time. It’s always a fun night; plan on making it out to this event!

The third CALVMX Flat Track round will be running at Camp Lockett in Campo, California, on July 29 and 30, sponsored by 100%, S&S Off-Road Magazine, Law Tigers, and Tom’s Hay. San Diego riders already know!

I am looking for vintage dirt trackers to display at an upcoming event: Ascot, Trojan, Orange County, Corona and the like. If you are interested, contact me at 951/900-6064 or 951/213-4414.

Ron Wood (Norton, Rotax, BMW, etc.) may want to rent the track at Perris Auto Speedway for a test-and-tune session. Again, contact me if you are interested. This would be for AFT Twins and Singles riders – or maybe anyone who wants to put up the cash to help pay for the track!

See you at the track!
