Hardy Allen passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017.

Most of us remember him from Ascot, as tuner for Al Gunter and others, but his skills with a wrench were known, respected and appreciated in many motorsports around the world. In the 1950s and ’60s he was crew chief for Dan Gurney’s All-American Racers and for A.J. Foyt. His was a familiar face on Gasoline Alley at Indy.

And it all started with a soap-box derby car, which he built and raced.

Hardy also raced cars and motorcycles.

He was everyone’s best friend. He was kind, considerate, and full of good humor. We grieve for this very special man. Count yourself privileged if you knew him.

Allen is interred at the VA Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona. Cards can be sent to his family at 12111 Wilsey Way in Poway, California 92064-2805.
