Summer’s over, and we’re heading back to Unadilla for more GNCC racing. Except, we weren’t all heading for New York State this year. Owing to some family and work commitments, Team UCX was, unfortunately, depleted in numbers. Even team owner Michael Swift was unable to line up, although he admitted to being glued to the Racer TV live-timing feed.

Unlike in recent years, the sun failed to shine much in New York for the morning ATV race, and it was noticeably colder than usual after rainfall in the days before the event. It was going to make that Sky Jump pretty slick.

Team UXC Pro 4×4 rider Kevin Trantham lined up on the start line, and when the flag dropped, we were GNCC racing again! With the slick grass, there was a lot of wheel spin, but the Polaris Scrambler XP1000 with Maxxis Bighorn tires got hooked up good and was away!

However, after laying down some early speed, a technical issue led to Trantham dropping right back to almost last in class. Showing some of the best form of his Pro career, Trantham could feel the benefit in his fitness to skipping a few summer cocktails. He put on a mighty charge that allowed him to make pass after pass, and he got up to second position. The first-place rider had left him too much work to do, and when the checkers flew, Trantham took second in the Pro 4×4 class – a solid result that puts him a strong third in the championship chase, just two points behind second place.

Kevin Trantham was runner-up in the Pro 4x4 class.

The only other class Team UXC contested on this weekend was the Senior 4×4 class, with Graham Widdicombe and Nic Snyckers. Both riders put in good performances, but it would be Widdicombe who put another Team UXC Polaris Scrambler XP1000 on the podium, in third. That was a great result at a track that Widdicombe considers his weakest, owing to the significant amount of motocross elements in the course. That said, he was pleased to be using Custom Axis Racing Shocks on his machine after making and sticking the landing of one of the larger doubles out on the course.

Snyckers’ finished the race in fifth place.

All the racers and all the machines will be back for some UTV and ATV race action in two weeks’ time at Marvin’s Mountain Top in West Virginia for the Mountaineer! See you then!
