When the checkered flag waved at the 50th running of the Baja 1000, the rider who took the flag for the winning team, Ox Motorsports, did the expected wheelie – but then lost traction on the damp ramp and caused injuries, which included breaking the leg of an onlooker.

The team was given a 30-minute penalty for being reckless, and that caused the Ox Motorsports team to take second place instead of the coveted first-place finish.
