Sidney Leonard Payne passed away peacefully on November 16 at the age of 84.

Payne was born in Oklahoma, but he moved to Bakersfield, California, after graduating from high school. He had a trucking business, which is currently operated by his son.

Payne started racing in his twenties and won two AMA Nationals, the Ascot TT and the Peoria TT. He carried National number 32 from 1962 to 1967. He continued to ride on road and dirt.

His talents were passed on to his grandson, who won his first AMA National Championship this year.
